Earlier this spring my friend went on a trip through France. As I lived vicariously through the photos she posted, I was reminded of the trip we took a few years ago and it inspired a little painting diversion this summer.I decided to have a little fun with Monet's waterlilies, by first doing watercolor sketches of his paintings. Then I put his paintings away and just looked at my sketches. 

Yellow is not typically my favoite color. However, the painting that this takes it's cue from is really striking. It was unusual for Monet, as it was really bright yellow, and the waterlilies were not really a focus.
